Our Houghton Training Centre covers Newcastle and the North East area. Our centre is easily accessible thanks to its location between the A1 and the A19. Our training centre is perfect for candidates in the following locations: Newcastle, Hartlepool, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Durham, and Darlington.

We provide a range of training courses suitable for a variety of industries – all taught in specially designed training facilities and classrooms. Our courses are taught by skilled trainers — most of whom are current or former rescuers.

We specialise in teaching low, medium and high risk confined space training courses. In our Houghton training centre we have facilities that help us recreate the situations and conditions necessary to teach the right confined spaces skills. Our aim is to teach all our candidates the knowledge and practical skills required for real-life application.

From our training centre we also teach lots of other safety courses – including First Aid training courses, IOSH training courses, Working at Height training courses and Fire Fighting training courses.

Facilities

Our Houghton training centre has 4 dedicated training rooms, a realistic mining coal face and an extensive confined spaces training gallery. This includes 100 metres of realistic tunnels, tubes, crawl ways, hatches, sewer covers and external drift entry points. This allows us to provide practical training – as well as bespoke or mock scenarios for a variety of industries.

In addition to our confined spaces facilities – we also have an indoor working at height structure. The structure features ladders, a sloping roof and unprotected edges for training that includes ropes and safety lines.

Mobile & tailored on-site training

If you’re looking to train more than one person – we can come to you!

Our team has a state-of-the-art mobile training unit – this means they can teach confined space training at any location – including your offices, factory or work site. The towable unit has everything required to complete our low, medium or high risk confined space training courses.

Our team can come to you to teach one of our other health and safety courses – like first aid; or we can work with you to develop the tailored training courses for your specific needs or industry.

Have just completed my refresher training for medium risk confined space entry. A really good day, informative but relaxed. The instructor was excellent and kept things interesting and moving. We came away fully understanding the requirements of the course

Alastair Swan, Newcastle City Council

Great course, very knowledgeable and experienced trainer, very impressed with the course and its content.

Les Young, Astute Machinery Consultants

We having been using MRS for over 20 years and have been most impressed their professionalism and flexibility that they have shown for First Aid training. Evaluation received from participants and managers has been very positive and we would always be more than happy to recommend them for First Aid training courses.

Angela Johnson, Occupational Health Manager, Akzo Nobel

I would like to say we have used MRS for a number of years very regular for our employees – we have a great relationship with them – staff are very quick and efficient and always quickly solve any issues we regularly have with cancellation of delegates and rearranging dates – the staff are very patient with us and always fulfill our needs within the business – we will be continuing to use Mines Rescue in the future as the service is excellent.

Lisa Collin, ESH Training Solutions

May I say how impressed I have been with the sheer quality of cover from MRS; it has been exemplary for my staff and peace of mind. It is great your staff are proactive on my site during a night shift and not just sitting back, professional advice and solutions for everything has also been offered.

David Murray, Behavioural Safety Manager, BAM Nuttall Limited
