Drager launch new Pro Air Breathing Apparatus and get hands on with the Air Boss at MRS Training & Rescue

Axel Bahr, Drager’s Global Business Manager for Mining

The Drager UK sales and marketing team visited our training centre in Mansfield and our experts were pleased to support them in a range of hands-on exercises during the day, providing them all with the opportunity to wear, operate and experience the breathing apparatus in a simulated emergency and appreciate the benefits and constraints of some of the equipment.

It was wonderful to also welcome Axel Bahr, Drager’s Global Business Manager for Mining, to our Mansfield centre. He had travelled from the Drager factory in Lübeck, Germany and introduced the newly launched equipment along with its features and benefits. And one of our trainer and rescue operatives, Karl Sheppard, was the first in the UK to try out an operational set. What a coup!

MRS' Karl Sheppard first in the UK to try out an operational set of the Drager ProAir.

During the day, the team from Drager were split into three groups and each rotated through three separate exercises:

  1. The Drager Air Boss Self Contained Breathing Apparatus

Under the careful eye of some of our experienced rescue operatives, the Drager team had to travel throughout our training simulator in a smoked filled environment, in a search and rescue operation to recover a casualty. They then practised re-ventilation of the confined space after successfully extracting the casualty.

    2. The Drager long duration breathing apparatus

The Drager team conducted an exercise in our underground confined space galleries using search and rescue techniques, as per a mines rescue plan, to recover a casualty with a stretcher system, back to fresh air. This exercise included hazard perception and control techniques using the Drager BG ProAir.

   3. Fault Finding Exercise

ProAir fault finding exercise

The team from Drager were presented with sets of long duration breathing apparatus that had faults and were asked to identify the faults and location of them to help with overall product knowledge of the equipment. The team were also given an overview of operational constraints and benefits of the breathing apparatus.

All three exercises were timed, and we created a fun, educational day with some competition and awards. The teams all did very well, and it was a great opportunity for the Drager team to really use and understand fully the new breathing apparatus.

I came here for my STCW 5 day training course and had a great time. Every single member of staff I interacted with has been incredibly friendly and helpful. The facilities and equipment here are all top notch and the trainers all have expert level knowledge in their subject matter. I had training from Matt Baxter and Henry Howes, these guys make the course consistently fun and engaging. You’re in safe hands at MRS Southampton.

Great experience doing my STCW courses with MRS - Matt and Henry were great and the whole team were very friendly. Special credit to Matt: amazing teacher and keeps it fun while also educational. The courses were very well formatted and executed (especially with the practical elements eg. Survival Training and Fire Fighting). A very informative and efficient week, thank you so much! :)
