MRS Training & Rescue Attend Emergency Services Show

On Saturday 20th May, three of our rescue specialists attended the Emergency Services Show at Wollaton Park.  Organised by Nottinghamshire Police and open to the public from 10am til 4pm, many of the blue light organisations attended, along with military, Search & Rescue, RNLI, Blood Bikes amongst others.

It was a glorious sunny day and thousands of people came along to enjoy demonstrations and hands on activities and to chat to everyone there.

What We Shared

The interest from members of the public and other members of the Emergency Services was uplifting and gratifying - with a huge amount of love and fondness shown towards us. People loved how Mines Rescue Service has diversified into other industries, such as renewables, industrial rescue cover, first aid and pre-hospital care, water rescue and drone inspections.

A huge thankyou to our team - Keith Lawson, Emma Spencer and Jason Barstow - who never stopped informing and entertaining all the visitors, from the moment they arrived to the moment they left. General public, teachers wanting inspiration for careers fairs, doctors, nurses, police, fire, voluntary sector, you name it we had a conversation – and never stopped talking all day!

Not only our team professional in every way, but they passed on their extensive knowledge to the many interested visitors throughout the day. A great way to remind everyone we not only provide health and safety training and industrial rescue but are pleased to also share our knowledge and experience to everyone who attended on the day.

There was lots of interest in what we now do – and we took along our emergency rescue vehicle kitted out with a wide range of equipment from gas monitors, breathing apparatus, first aid equipment and rescue manikins, as well as our long duration breathing apparatus called BG4s.

Water Rescue Boat

We also took our rescue boat which we use for anyone needing water rescue services during work over bridges and the like, and we took our confined space drone which proved very interesting to many visitors. Using drones to avoid entry into confined spaces and at height inspections was a talking point throughout the day.

Final Thoughts

Thanks also to Jane and her team from Nottinghamshire Police, who not only did a great job of organising the day, but for their support and regular checks on our wellbeing.

A great opportunity for us to talk about our history and past as the Mines Rescue Service, and how we have diversified and grown to become the learning health and safety training and industrial rescue cover.

Mines Rescue Service, over a century old and still as relevant as ever!

Great course, great venue, so much better than using that crappy portable tunnel thing, get rid of it. Instructor was so nice, put you at ease, great presentation work and made it easy to follow. Very enjoyable.

I attended Emergency First Aid Course. The trainer Dale was fab, made everything easy to understand and great knowledge too. Good to practice CPR, Defib and bandaging techniques too. Thanks very much - will definitely be back again when due.
