A recognised expert, Billy is dedicated to driving continuous improvements in safety and health across the organisation.
Meet Billy Grieves, Senior SHEQ Manager at MRS Training and Rescue HQ
Billy is a highly accomplished and motivated Senior SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) Manager with over 15 years of experience in high-risk industries, including mining, rescue operations, and firefighting. Since 2021, he has been instrumental in advancing SHEQ practices, promoting a culture that integrates safety with business strategies to enhance risk management and operational efficiency.
In his current role, Billy designs and implements robust policy frameworks. He manages internal audits and conducts thorough investigations of accidents, near misses, and non-conformance issues, ensuring detailed reporting for senior leadership.
His role requires collaboration with internal teams and external bodies, such as regulatory agencies, trade unions, and auditors. Notably, he has worked with customers to develop bespoke safety management systems, including Safety Performance Indicators based on professional H&S advice and best practices.
Previous Roles:
Billy’s journey began in the Royal Air Force, where he served as a firefighter from 2008 to 2016, achieving the rank of Corporal. During his tenure, he honed his leadership skills, managing firefighting teams, developing risk assessments, and leading training exercises. His responsibilities included mentoring new firefighters and deploying teams in emergency situations on and off British soils.
From 2016 to 2021, Billy worked at MRS Training & Rescue Mansfield as a Health and Safety Instructor and Rescue Operative. He instructed and assessed various health and safety courses, developed rescue plans, and provided expert advice on safe working methods and confined space categorisation. He played a key role in promoting a positive health and safety culture and coordinated manned rescue teams for high-risk activities.
Billy’s commitment to proactive safety management, combined with his deep industry knowledge and leadership expertise, makes him a valuable asset in advancing SHEQ standards across diverse industries.
