He has also served as a lead auditor for Mines Rescue provision and contributed to training programs for UK and Ireland mining teams.
Previously, at UK Coal Mining Ltd, Stuart led safety initiatives that reduced incidents by 48%. He also managed key projects like the safe closure of the UK’s last deep coal mine and major infrastructure developments requiring careful safety planning.
Through his dedication and leadership, Stuart continues to drive improvements in mine safety and operational performance. His ability to communicate effectively, influence cultural change, and introduce innovative safety practices has earned him recognition across the mining and health & safety sectors.

“It is a very exciting time for us at South Crofty and the commissioning of new hoisting equipment in our main shaft is a milestone achievement for us in the process towards full-scale reopening and tin production once more. Having Stuart and team training our new winder drivers has been fantastic and all of us are benefiting from their experience in deep UK mining shaft access works and the insights they can provide accordingly. The training program has been well thought out and developed, which, given its compliance with and recommendations from the HSE Mines Inspectorate, is both extremely valuable in developing competency for our operators and reassuring that we are following best practise available in the UK.” - Steve Tarrant, Mine Manager for Cornish Metals
