Guaranteeing high quality training for our customers means starting right at the beginning with our employees.
From initial induction through to annual appraisals, all employees are given the opportunity, encouragement and support to develop themselves within a structured framework process.
Continual Professional Development
We believe in providing opportunities for everyone to reach their maximum potential. We continually develop our employees through internal staff appraisals and training reviews on a yearly basis. We provide our trainers with the right tools to do the job competently and effectively. Our CPD process recognises talent through an annual review which considers individual development.
1. Learn new training courses and gain certification in an array of competence and skill areas, to support them in their wider roles.
Examples of which might include:
- QCF in Rescue Operations
- First Aid Level 3
- Entry into high risk confined spaces
- Rescue and recovery of casualties from confined spaces
- Health and Safety (IOSH, NEBOSH)
- Fire Awareness/Warden
- Working at height
- Manual handling
- Breathing apparatus and ancillary equipment servicing/testing
- CIEH Professional Trainer
- City & Guilds TAQA Assessor & Verifier
2. Attend internal training days with our “in-house experts” to ensure sharing of best practice.
3. Become part of our rescue teams associated with confined space/at height or mines rescue. As part of maintaining competence we run at least four training exercises per year per trainer.
Consequently, we are in a position where promotion is largely achieved internally. We believe that allowing people to develop and fulfil their ambitions means they are happy and self-fulfilled in their job.
All our trainers are annually assessed to ensure they meet the required standards of teaching. Assessment competency is also reviewed. Training records are maintained throughout the course of employment.
There is room for continual progression and development to ultimately become one of our Team Leaders.
Become a Rescue Operative
Many of our trainers also gain extra experience in the industry as operational rescue workers, including work and rescue in mines, confined spaces and from height. To do this, each must pass the High Risk Confined Space Course with Rescue and achieve the National Occupational Standard for a rescuer worker.
- Training with breathing apparatus, which includes Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and other specialist recirculation, long duration breathing apparatus for use in various scenarios. Training for technical rescue is externally audited by an approved body (e.g. City and Guilds).
- 4 planned simulated practices per annum with assessment against the full performance requirements of the Level 2 Certificate in Specialised Rescue Operations.
- At least 4 competence assessments per annum, including the wearing of breathing apparatus.
- Our technical at height rescue teams are trained by our own instructors, who are competent to deliver the Global Wind Organisation standard for rescue from wind turbines.
- A thorough medical annually, including the Chester Step Test for those working in more arduous environments whilst wearing long duration breathing apparatus.
- Face Fit testing on the Respiratory Protective Equipment used.
- Risk assessment training.
