British Gypsum, part of the Saint-Gobain group, wanted to ensure their staff would not only learn the theory aspects of first aid, but also be assessed for competence when using their skills in a practical situation.
They also wanted to make sure that all courses they booked would comply with any statutory regulations in terms of workplace safety. They approached our training centre in Swadlincote to enquire about our First Aid training courses, which is the closest MRS location to their site in East Leake, Leicestershire.
As leaders in First Aid training, we were able to provide British Gypsum with the assessments and training they needed. We are approved to deliver, assess and certificate first aid training and competence assessments – and all our courses comply with the First Aid Regulations Act 1981.
Equipping staff members with the skills needed to know how to react in emergency situations really can be the difference between life and death.
British Gypsum never imagined how necessary their training would be so soon after completing one of our training courses.
The Training
As a leading First Aid training and assessment provider, we were delighted to be able to provide British Gypsum’s team members with First Aid at Work training. They were taught a comprehensive set of practical skills and life-saving techniques, including:
- CPR
- Recovery position
- Respiration
- Circulation system
- Using First Aid equipment
- Wounds and bleeding
- Major illnesses
- Soft tissue injuries and dislocations
The 3-day course complies with the First Aid Regulations Act 1981 and is valid for three years. After the three years, candidates can renew their certificate by undertaking the First Aid Refresher course.
It remains vital for British Gypsum staff to have the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver first aid and deal with real emergency situations, as they experienced with their friend Barrie.
We were also pleased to have worked with such a great group of people.
Why MRS Training & Rescue?
- Fully approved by the MPQC Awarding Organisation
- Operational employees who understand the importance of control measures, as identified by a risk assessment
- A company that has a history of practical, sensible solutions
- A background in a hazardous industry (coal mining) where high standards of health, safety and first aid were expected and essential
MRS deliver, assess and certificate First Aid training courses and competence assessments from locations across the UK. We only offer a range of courses that comply with the relevant safety-first aid regulations, and legislation which are designed to include both theoretical and practical sessions. We are approved by the MPQC awarding organisation, who is in turn approved by Ofqual. All our courses ensure that you meet recommendations outlined by the HSE.
Not sure how to express my thanks. Last year, you trained both myself and my colleague, Neil, on a First Aid at Work course. Recently, one of the lads on our shift suffered a full cardiac arrest, collapsing without warning. Neil was first to him with myself moments behind him, Neil started CPR whilst I got one of our defib machines. Another guy YOU trained arrived at this time and he called the ambulance. Through following your fantastic training, we carried out CPR and shocked him twice until we got him back to life, breathing with his heart going again. A first responder arrived at this time, closely followed by the emergency services. Barrie is in hospital now awaiting an operation to fit a defib in his chest! But I have just received, as I type this, a notification from him! You will never know how big a part you played in saving the life of a good mate of ours and I will never be able to thank you fully for giving us the skills and confidence to carry out the horrible task of pounding a friend’s chest. Thank you again from all of us but I guess mostly from Barrie.
