We are delighted to announce that we have invested in a new wind turbine training rig, so we are able to support and provide courses to the renewable industry in Yorkshire and the Humber region.
GWO Accredited Training Rig
The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) is a non-profit body founded by wind turbine owners and manufactures. The body standardises training across the sector and those who are accredited, as we are, can offer training which is recognised by those in the wind turbine industry.
Our new wind turbine and working at height training rig has been approved by the GWO. This means we can now offer realistic, hands-on training to those employed or seeking employment within the wind sector. We have a range of GWO accredited courses, that together provide candidates with the Technician Core Skills package:
- GWO Approved Working at Heights & Rescue (Wind Turbines) Course
- Manual Handling (Wind Turbines) GWO Approved
- First Aid Training (Wind Turbines) GWO Approved
- Fire Awareness (Wind Industry) GWO Approved

New Training Facilities in Knottingley
We spoke to Billy Gundry, the Operations Manager at our Knottingley centre, to learn more about why investing in GWO approved training facilities was important:
“We can now offer realistic training in a safe environment using our wind turbine and working at height training rig. The facility provides our clients with the most realist scenarios, which allows candidates to train without the cost of closing a wind turbine.
We are engaging with organisations and key stakeholders across the wind sector to highlight the courses we can now offer to the future generations of working in the industry. All of our courses are designed to meet the needs of the wind industry and include working at height, firefighting, manual handling and first aid skills training.
We can also provide bespoke training – which can be designed for specific needs – always with safety, quality and professionalism.”
Quality Training Equipment
Delegates on our course train using high-quality, industry recommended equipment. All the equipment we use has undergone extensive testing to ensure it is fit for purpose. Among the wide range of tripods, winches, fall arrest, restraint and harnesses we use is the Mittleman D8500 Tripod and the Unidrive Auto Descender – both versatile pieces of equipment we exclusively sell.
Wind Industry Training
The courses and certification we offer are designed for the progressive development of workers in the wind energy sector. MRS Training & Rescue are supporting the sector by providing practical, hands-on experience to candidates – which is industry recognised and accredited by bodies like the GWO.
