Many health and safety awarding bodies have extended their certification (tickets) renewal terms because of coronavirus (COVID-19). We list the renewal terms and dates by awarding body below:

City & Guilds - updated 7 July 2021

City & Guilds allow certificates that expired after the 1 March 2020 to continue to be valid until 31 July 2021 to allow delegates the opportunity to requalify once back at work.

Global Wind Organisation (GWO) - updated 21 January 2021

The GWO extended certificates for 60 days is in place until 30 June 2021 year. Candidates who, owing to a covid-related cancellation, are unable to attend a planned refresher course within the 24 months validity period need to ensure they take any refresher courses within 60 days of its expiry.

EUSR - updated 16 March 2021

For the MATS Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue training, the full revalidation course and registration with EUSR should be undertaken wherever practicable. Anyone who has previously undertaken a EUSR approved Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue course whose certification expired between 20th September 2020 and 30th June 2021 may be permitted by their Employer to continue to climb up until the 30th June 2021. It is the responsibility of the individual’s employer to assess their competency to continue to climb and to grant the extension.  The employer would be required to provide evidence in the event of an incident. ‘New’ climbers must undertake a full initial EUSR approved Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue course.

PASMA - checked 18 February 2021

PASMA has offered a 90-day extension to current cardholders. But you do need to book onto a future training course and complete the theory part of the course online. Then the validity of the card will be extended until you are to complete the practical section at a registered training centre.

First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid Certificates - updated 18 January 2021

Our first aid courses are accredited by MP Awards and in line with the HSE have advised that First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid certificates that expired after 16 March 2020 can remain valid until 31 October 2020 or 6 months from date of expiry, whichever is later - to allow renewals to be completed in the normal way.

In addition, in recognition of local lockdowns and other COVID related situations, instead of the one month window usually allowed to complete a requalification course when a certificate has expired, delegates now have until 31 March 2021 to requalify.

To qualify for the extension, employers must be able to demonstrate that they have made every effort to get the training completed and that they maintain an appropriate level of first aid cover for their business needs.

ECITB - updated 4 November 2021

The 3 month grace period currently allowed after the expiry date of a CCNSG card will come to an end from 1 April 2022. Therefore from 1 April 2022 delegates will be required to attend a renewal course or take the online renewal test before their safety passport expires.

For other ECITB certificates that expired after 31 July 2020  delegates must complete their renewal under normal conditions. ECITB will consider extensions for certificates expiring between January and the end of March 2021, on a case by case basis if:

  • There is no approved training provider within 25 miles of an employer’s site
  • An employer’s risk assessment does not allow employees to visit any other premises

In such cases, employers should contact ECITB’s Technical Manager, Blair Barclay, to request individual extensions.

CITB Site Safety Plus (including TSTS) - updated 13 January 2021

Anyone whose certificate expired after 1 October 2020 has until 30 April 2021 to sit a refresher course. If a person's certificate expired before 1 October 2020, they will be required to join a full course, rather than the refresher equivalent.
