Ronnie Munro launches children's story book to raise funds to help disadvantaged children

Ronnie Munro

When Ronnie Munro, lead internal quality assurer for regulated qualifications at MRS Training & Rescue, set up a small charity 8 years ago with his wife Diane, to help disadvantaged children in his community, he never thought he would end up becoming an author.

But that is exactly what this ex-miner from Selby has done, and he has not only written it, but funded the entire publication himself. Meaning every penny of profit from each £5.99 purchase will go to the charity.

Soot and Colours is a charity children’s book – with all the money made from its sale going towards the Spirit of Christmas charity.Spirit of Christmas provides family Christmas parties every year for local socially and economically disadvantaged families. Despite their best fundraising efforts, there is always a shortfall between funds raised and the cost of holding the parties. So Ronnie came up with the idea of writing a book. At each party they hold, two elves entertain the children, and Ronnie’s beautifully illustrated book tells the story of how two elves set out to find out who they are and how they should be helping Santa. And we find out how they get their names too!

You can find out more about the book's creation, and see some of the amazing characters and pictures, as well as purchase it at Amazon. Or you can buy it direct from Spirit of Christmas by emailing admin@spiritofchristmas.org.uk.

Over 3,000 children have enjoyed these parties so far, with each one enjoying 2 hours of entertainment, food and drinks, a visit from Santa plus souvenir photos, and a good quality toy. Some of the children who come to the parties are not allowed to open their presents as it may be a big present for them on Christmas day. Spirit of Christmas creates a special memory for all those attending.
