Assistant Manager - Southampton 

  • Full-time, Permanent
  • Salary: Opportunity for annual earning +£42,000 pa -  plus 26 days holidays; mobile phone; pension scheme contribution; life assurance; uniform; private health care scheme.

The Role

The Assistant Manager will assume day to day responsibility for the leadership of safe and efficient delivery of all activities that are taking place on and off the site. They will be directly responsible for ensuring that the quality systems are maintained and that our employees fully understand and maintain those quality standards.

Key Accountabilities

  • For leadership of the day to day business activities
  • To actively promote the MRS business and its values when on and off site
  • To ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, that the public, our customers and our employees are not affected or impacted by our activities
  • To ensure that the quality standards for their site are maintained in line with Company and 3rd party assessor requirements
  • To periodically verify the quality of training that is being provided on and off the site, and provide feedback to the trainer
  • The efficient operation of the site, ensuring that returns are maximised for the benefit of the business and its employees


Key Activities

  • To provide the leadership of the day to day MRS business within their areas of responsibility
  • To ensure that there are suitable and sufficient risk assessments and safe systems developed for every activity that is planned on and off the site
  • To ensure that the risk assessment and safe systems are adequately communicated
  • To ensure that the quality of delivery is in line with MRS and customer expectations
  • To develop a system that works for their site, that will allow the periodic review of training and rescue cover activities
  • To be part of a team that conducts cross site audits on other sites, working with the SHEQ/Risk Manager
  • Planning the training for MRS employees to ensure that existing skills are maintained and new skills developed
  • The effective day to day management of the controllable costs in line with or better than the agreed budget, working with other sites to maximise margin for the business
  • To ensure that planned training programmes are full by developing and maintaining a site process that actively sells spare training places
  • To work with the site Manager to deliver agreed improvement projects on their sites
  • To work with existing and new customers to develop the MRS offer
  • To develop their own skills to allow them to effectively act as Manager for their site during absence and holidays
  • To maintain the infrastructure of the site
     

Skills and Capabilities

  • Have a clear understanding of how the site operates (resource planning/ quality systems etc)
  • Have the ability to delegate responsibility
  • Be a confident communicator
  • Is confident in managing in difficult circumstances, or having difficult conversations
  • Understand how the budget is constructed and how the margins are influenced by decisions
  • Competent IT skills and familiar with the systems required to fulfil the role (Word/ Excel etc.)

 

As part of your development into the role of Assistant Manager and to provide further knowledge and understanding of our industry, you must be prepared to actively engage in industrial rescue cover with the sites team, whilst also assisting the Operations Manager in the management of the site and quality management systems.

The position will be subject to a DBS (previously CRB) / Disclosure Scotland check and two satisfactory references.
