The Qualsafe First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC3) course is designed to equip learners with the essential skills and knowledge required to provide effective emergency care in a variety of situations.
This course is ideal for those who wish to pursue a career in the emergency services, event medical sector, or wish to enhance their existing first aid skills. Through a blend of theoretical and practical training, participants will gain the confidence to respond promptly and efficiently to a range of medical emergencies.
This qualification aims to equip learners with the knowledge and skills corresponding to Level D of the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC) Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) skills framework.
Due to the nature of the training course and the emphasis placed on communication, there is only a provision for the assessments to be undertaken in English. Therefore, candidates for this type of training must be able to understand and speak the English language. Learners would also benefit from a basic understanding of first aid and level 2 literacy or equivalent and must be aged 17 years on first day of the course.
The FREC3 course covers a comprehensive curriculum that includes:
- Patient assessment and management
- Basic life support and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
- Management of trauma-related injuries, such as fractures and spinal injuries
- Dealing with medical emergencies, including asthma, diabetes, and anaphylaxis
- Management of minor injuries, including wounds and burns
- Safe use of oxygen and other medical gases
- Paediatric emergency care
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first responder in the pre-hospital environment
This course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical, hands-on scenarios, ensuring participants can apply their knowledge in real-world situations.

This course is taught by highly experienced trainers. All our course training instructors have worked in hazardous and emergency situations, where a high standard of first aid is required and essential.
These real-life skills help them deliver training to candidates from a practical and operational perspective.
Assessments take the form of 6 practical assessments, 3 multiple choice question papers and 1 invigilated exam on anatomy and physiology.
Upon successful completion of the FREC3 course, participants will receive a Qualsafe Awards Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care. This qualification is recognised and accredited by Qualsafe Awards, one of the UK’s largest awarding organisations for first aid training. The certificate demonstrates that the holder has achieved a high standard of competence in emergency care, making it a valuable addition to their professional portfolio.
The Qualsafe Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care is valid for a period of three years from the date of issue. To maintain this qualification, participants are required to undertake a requalification course before the expiry date. Regular requalification ensures that first responders remain up-to-date with the latest practices and protocols in emergency care, ensuring the highest standards of safety and competence.

A very in depth and informative first aid course. With a very good instructor who kept it interesting but not stressful..
Our first aid content was made even better by the amazing knowledge and fun personality of our trainer Andy McCormc. Very well together and even personalised and adapted to our individual industry trauma response requirements. Highly recommend.
You will never know how big a part you played in the saving the life of a good mate of ours and I will never be able to thank you fully for giving us the skills and confidence to carry out the horrible task of pounding a friends chest.
