This Combined Advanced Rescue Training (ART) course is part of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) training portfolio and is designed to teach delegates how to perform rescue operations in the restrictive areas of a wind turbine – such as the hub, basement, nacelle and blades.

On this course, delegates will learn about how to complete rescues when on their own – and how to work safely as part of a team.

Due to the nature of the training course and the emphasis placed on communication, there is only a provision for the assessments to be undertaken in English. Therefore, candidates for this type of training must be able to understand and speak the English language.

This training course ensures delegates can perform rescue operations in a wind turbine as part of a team or on their own (when working with just one other colleague) and includes 4 key scenarios:

Scenario 1 - Team Hub rescue (7 hours)
Scenario 2 - Team Nacelle, tower and basement rescue (14 hours)
Scenario 3 - Single rescuer, hub, spinner and inside blade rescue (4 hours)
Scenario 4 - Single rescuer; nacelle, tower and basement rescue (4 hours)

During these scenarios – delegates will be continually assessed, and this will count towards whether they complete this course successfully.

After completing this course, delegates will have the knowledge and practical skills to rescue ill or injured colleagues from wind turbines, and will:

  • Have knowledge of emergency response plan in their own organisation
  • Demonstrate control measures to prevent injury during training
  • Correctly use a cervical collar
  • Be able to package an injured person
  • Set up and safely use a lowering / raising rescue system
  • Be able to rescue a person from a Hub blade and spinner
  • Be able to evacuate an injured person from the nacelle to the base of the tower
  • Be able to rescue a person from an enclosed space
  • Be able to rescue a person from a crawl space
  • Be able to rescue up
  • Be able to undertake single-rescuer from:
    • Blade
    • Crawl space
    • Nacelle to base inside the tower
    • Rescue up from inside and outside of the tower
