This 3-day high risk confined space course is designed for those who enter and work in high-risk environments. Delegates learn how to work safely, use tools and equipment effectively, and handle emergencies in confined spaces.

About this course
This training course covers what you need to know to enter and work safely in high risk confined spaces.
A high risk confined space is a space in which a specified risk cannot be eliminated or controlled to an acceptable level, or where breathing apparatus is required. Entry may involve complex procedures and will entail the use of breathing apparatus. Candidates on this course will complete practical training in a simulated confined space (such as an indoor tunnel) containing one or more specified risks:
- Fire or explosion
- Loss of consciousness from an increase in body temperature
- Loss of consciousness or asphyxiation from gas, fume, vapour or lack of oxygen
- Drowning from an increase in liquid levels
- Asphyxiation from a free flowing solid
Candidates will learn how to:
- Prepare to work safely in high risk confined spaces
- Enter and exit high risk confined spaces safely
- Use equipment and tools safely
- Follow working procedures and work safely
- Deal with emergencies
- Understand the principles of working in high risk confined spaces
- Understand standard protocols for working in high risk confined spaces
- High risk control entry awareness

This course is delivered by experienced, highly trained instructors. All of our instructors have worked in hazardous environments and understand the issues and working conditions course attendees may face at work.
A high proportion of our trainers are also real-life rescuers who attend emergency operations in the UK and around the world.
A maximum of 10 candidates are allowed per course. If you wish to train a larger group of employees, contact us to learn more about our bespoke training courses and on-site training units.

Certification/Accreditation
Delegates need to pass a written test and practical assessment to successfully complete this course and receive certification. Those who pass this course can choose to receive an MRS Training & Rescue certification, or for an additional fee, a City & Guilds certificate.
The Working in High Risk Confined Space course aligns with the City & Guilds Working in High Risk Confined Spaces Level 2 Award (6160-03) Accreditation.
Certification lasts for 3 years. If you’re looking to renew your certification, you can opt to take one of our MRS Training & Rescue refresher courses. If you require a City & Guilds certificate you must take the full course again.
MRS certificates are emailed within a week of the course being completed. City & Guilds certificates are emailed as soon as we receive them (usually within 2 weeks).

Entry requirements
Delegates must be physically fit for courses involving practical exercises and PPE. Key health conditions to consider include heart disease, respiratory issues (e.g., asthma), high blood pressure, epilepsy, vertigo, impaired limb function, uncorrected vision problems, and any substance dependencies. If unsure, employers should arrange a medical assessment. We reserve the right to refuse training to those deemed medically unfit.
Delegates using manriding or fall arrest equipment must not exceed a weight limit of 127kg (20 stone). Customers may use their own equipment if the assessor confirms it is fit for purpose, properly calibrated, and compatible with course equipment.
Yes. Delegates must be clean shaven when using full open circuit breathing apparatus, as facial hair can prevent a proper seal between the mask and the wearer’s face.
Delegates must provide photographic ID, such as a passport or driving licence, before completing any course. The legal name on the ID will appear on the certificate.
In addition, all candidates are required to bring the following PPE for practical exercises:
- Hard hat
- Workwear
- Safety footwear
- Gloves
Yes. Due to the nature of the training course and the emphasis placed on communication, there is only a provision for the assessments to be undertaken in English. Therefore English proficiency is required.
