About this course
This FREC3 course covers a comprehensive curriculum that includes:
- Patient assessment and management
- Basic life support and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
- Management of trauma-related injuries, such as fractures and spinal injuries
- Dealing with medical emergencies, including asthma, diabetes, and anaphylaxis
- Management of minor injuries, including wounds and burns
- Safe use of oxygen and other medical gases
- Paediatric emergency care
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first responder in the pre-hospital environment

- Stretcher awareness (Scoop)
- Pelvic and simple splints
- Helmet removal and spinal consideration
- Pulse oximetry

Certification/Accreditation
Assessments take the form of 6 practical assessments, 3 multiple choice question papers and 1 invigilated exam on anatomy and physiology.
Upon successful completion of the FREC3 course, participants will receive a Qualsafe Awards Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care. This qualification is recognised and accredited by Qualsafe Awards, one of the UK’s largest awarding organisations for first aid training. The certificate demonstrates that the holder has achieved a high standard of competence in emergency care, making it a valuable addition to their professional portfolio.
The Qualsafe Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care is valid for a period of three years from the date of issue. To maintain this qualification, participants are required to undertake a requalification course before the expiry date. Regular requalification ensures that first responders remain up-to-date with the latest practices and protocols in emergency care, ensuring the highest standards of safety and competence.
Qualsafe awarding body certificates are emailed as soon as we receive them (usually within 2 weeks).

No - PPE is not required.
Yes - Delegates must provide photographic ID, such as a passport or driving licence, before completing any course. The legal name on the ID will appear on the certificate.
Learners would also benefit from a basic understanding of first aid and level 2 literacy or equivalent and must be aged 17 years on first day of the course.
Although it is no longer an awarding body pre-requisite, we recommend you do approximately 18 hours pre-course reading of Ambulance Care Essentials covering the following areas:
- Principles of communication
- Consent and capacity
- Information governance
- Patient assessment (primary and secondary surveys)
- Health and safety in their environment
- Duty of care, scope of practice and accountability

Yes. Due to the nature of the training course and the emphasis placed on communication, there is only a provision for the assessments to be undertaken in English. Therefore English proficiency is required.
