About this course
This course takes delegates through the standards of competence required in terms of security awareness on board a ship. These are:
- Contribute to the enhancement of the maritime security through heightened awareness
- Recognition of security threats
- Understanding of the need for and methods of maintain security awareness and vigilance
By the end of the course delegates will:
- Be aware of the importance of ship security and the roles of those involved in its provision
- Be aware of the requirements and measures to maintain ship security
- Be able to recognise and report a security threat

All MRS Training & Rescue instructors who teach this course are existing rescue operators who deliver specialist rescue training for awarding bodies and internally accredited courses.
All undertake, as a minimum, the Level 3 Approved Educational Training package (or equivalent) and the City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, to assess in both the work based and vocational arenas.
The instructor to candidate ratio for this course is 1:24.
Certification/Accreditation
Delegates will undertake a written assessment and achieve a minimum of 80%.
On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a printed MRS Training & Rescue certificate.
The course is regulated by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and is in line with the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping.
Those successfully completing the assessments will be issued with a certificate which currently has no revalidation period - however we would suggest not exceeding 5 years.
The MRS Training & Rescue certificate will be provided to successful candidates at the end of the course.

Entry requirements
No – PPE is not required for this classroom-based course.
Yes. Delegates must provide government issued photo identification on their day of training. This is a mandatory requirement. Failure to provide this ID will prevent the delegate from taking the training until verification can be made.
Yes. Due to the nature of the training course and the emphasis placed on communication, there is only a provision for the assessments to be undertaken in English. Therefore English proficiency is required.
