Rescue Team Member and Health & Safety Instructor - Aberdeen

For over 120 years, MRS Training & Rescue has developed specialist skills, experience and knowledge gained from working in difficult and potentially dangerous environments, to affect the rescue and escape of mine workers from underground.

However, given the gradual decline of the coal mines over many years, culminating in the closure of the last deep coal mine in December 2015, we have been able to expand and diversify to meet the needs of today’s health and safety market. We have been able to secure long term success by leveraging our expertise, and have branched out from underground mining into providing unique rescue services, specialist equipment (some of which has been designed using practical expertise gathered on the job), consultancy and a comprehensive range of accredited health and safety related products, training and services to a wide range of industries, including nuclear, aerospace, manufacturing and utilities.

Job Description

We are looking for amazing people to invest in.

Our business is unique. Our staff work as health and safety trainers, teaching delegates how to work safely in dangerous environments such as at height or in confined spaces. They maintain their expertise by working as members of an emergency response team, providing on-site emergency response services for clients in major hazard industries such as power generation, construction, and utilities.

As a one-of-a-kind business, we are used to training and developing the right people for the role. Some of the people we have trained in the past have included:

  • Teachers / Trainers
  • Construction / Civils Workers
  • Utility Workers
  • Fire & Rescue Responders
  • Outdoor Activity Instructors

BUT

We are more interested in who you are than what you’ve already done. We need people who:

  • Are willing to travel and work long shifts from time-to-time

  • Are willing to work in unusual locations

We expect a high standard from our staff, but we give a lot in return. As a trainee, you will start on a base salary of at least £25,857 with the potential for rapid progression and rewards as you meet your training milestones. This is augmented by a generous overtime rate, annual profit related bonus payment, a 10% employer pension contribution, mobile phone, life insurance, sick pay* and private medical insurance* (to include personal contributions) *after qualifying period.

We have a great culture of rewarding our staff and overtime is paid for all work undertaken outside of shift times with no exceptions. We offer daily bonus payments for working away from home, and for specific tasks, like teaching. Established workers who take on every challenge they are offered, frequently earn in excess of £40,000.

We give all of our operatives formal, recognised training in:

  • Teaching
  • Vocational Assessing
  • Prehospital Emergency Care
  • Rescue from Confined Spaces

Many of our operatives go on to develop additional specialties such as:

  • Mines Rescue
  • Educational Quality Assurance
  • Water Rescue
  • Rescue from Height

This is not a job for everyone. But, for the right person, this is an amazing opportunity. We have a fantastic staff retention rate and we work with the expectation that we are developing our staff for long-term positions with us. We provide career-long opportunities and most of our senior operational staff have been developed from frontline roles within the business.

Hear from one of our team about what it is like working for us.
