Emergency Rescue Cover

Always ready to respond

Rescue Teams specialising in Confined Space and Working at Height – providing 24/7 cover throughout the UK.

Multi-disciplined, experienced experts providing industrial emergency and training services when and where you need it.

What is Emergency Rescue cover?
A specialist service providing rescue operations for employees who are, or maybe, at risk of requiring it when working in medium or high risk confined spaces. For instance - power station outages, maintenance of vats and vessels in factories and breweries, boiler inspections, utility company sewer maintenance and inspection – or any confined space where there is a specified risk in which workers are operating.

Why do I need it?

The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 require rescue arrangements to be established prior to the commencement of any work. The regulations state that no one should enter or work in a confined space unless there are emergency arrangements in place that are appropriate for the level of risk involved in the task/space. These should include making provision for extracting workers from the confined space and making provision for first aid equipment (including resuscitation equipment) where the need can be foreseen.

The rescue arrangements should:

  • be carried out by competent rescue operatives who are specifically trained in this provision and who understand the risks involved in rescue
  • be executed by operatives who are trained in resuscitation and resuscitation equipment
  • immediately be put into operation – because in some cases you only have minutes to complete a rescue successfully

Why MRS?

Over 100 years’ experience in keeping people safe
Our history dates back to the early 1900’s and, during that time, we have been on the front line in providing a sought-after rapid response rescue service to mines and industry. We are recognised within the Mines Regulations 2014 as a specialist rescue services provider, and we continue to provide rescue arrangements to mines across the UK. We are one of the leading private sector rescue companies in the UK today; providing health and safety training and rescue cover for high risk situations world-wide. No other rescue company, in the public or private sector, has the same knowledge and experience as MRS.

Experts you can trust
Our rescue teams are highly trained, competent health and safety experts, all qualified as either rescue officers or rescue operatives as outlined in the National Occupational Standards Mines Regulations 2014, and all possessing a rescue operative’s “QCF” certificate. Our teams are trained to offer specialist rescue from heights, as well as from high risk confined spaces. All operatives are competent to use and service open circuit breathing apparatus (OCBA). They are also trained in first aid, with additional trauma training, and competent to use specialist emergency medical equipment. For example First Aid at Work as approved by the HSE and awarded through MPQC (award body), and Advanced First Aid (pain relief, resuscitation, blood clotting, defibrillation, transport) through MPQC.

Specialist Equipment
We have a fleet of vehicles, designed and equipped to ensure that we can respond rapidly to a range of emergencies, which include confined space and working at height rescue.

Our vehicles hold all of the necessary equipment to deal with any reasonably foreseeable confined space or working at height incident. We pride ourselves on being prepared to handle whatever we encounter, and 115 years of experience means we can handle quite a lot.

Technical Service Vehicle
For the longer duration outages, we can provide an onsite Technical Service Vehicle equipped with its own power supply and other critical on-site services. Whilst it offers a working space for briefing contractors and rescue teams, its primary function is to offer a space to act as immediate response first aid. Designed to handle a stretcher and allow space for our rescue teams to work on, and transport, a casualty towards enhanced medical treatment. This vehicle can provide a life line.

Added Value Services

As well as being able to rescue from confined spaces during an emergency situation, we can also offset other costs whilst at your premises by providing:

  • Staff and contractor training
  • Site safety audits
  • Servicing of equipment
  • Practical and procedural health and safety consultancy and advice
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Assisting in the completion of risk assessments, method statements, permits to work and rescue plans

This is just a selection of the services MRS can provide and we are always available to support you in whatever way we can. We can tailor a package of services so that you get maximum value from the time our experts are on-site with you.

Don't just take our word for it...

May I say how impressed I have been with the shear quality of cover from MRS; it has been exemplary for my staff and peace of mind. It is great your staff are proactive on my site during a night shift and not just sitting back, professional advice and solutions for everything has also been offered.

David Murray, Behavioural Safety Manager, BAM Nuttall Limited

I just wanted to pass on my thanks to you and your respective team who once again supported us so well over the summer as we undertook major refurbishment of the scour valves at Caban Coch. This was a critical project for us and safety on such a challenging job was our top priority. As ever your team did a great job providing critical safe access and emergency plan support – it’s very reassuring to have you ‘guys’ on site.

Peter Perry, Chief Operating Officer, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water

Amco Rail utilised MRS to provide a standby rescue team in support of a complex confined space entry. The works were successfully completed without any issues. The rescue team on site carried out their standby duties very professionally, and this gives our own site staff extra confidence in the plan set up to manage the entry. The MRS team are the obvious supplier of choice to us, for specialist advice and rescue cover on our more complex confined space entries.
