We have taken a wide range of measures to ensure all the training courses we deliver comply with the latest government guidelines and our own coronavirus (COVID-19) risk assessments. From entry, break times, classrooms, practical exercises and written assessments – we have taken a wide range of measures to ensure all delegates can train safely, maintain hygiene and social distancing.
We understand many of our customers paused their training and we hope that we will now be able to provide the level of service and support you need once again.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Training FAQs
Many customers will have questions about how we will be ensuring the safety of everyone involved during our training courses. We want to reassure you that all situations have been carefully considered and our teams have received thorough training in order to ensure we operate to the highest standards of health and safety.
We have also provided answers to frequently asked questions about how we have made our training courses COVID-19 safe below.
Can I book to attend a training course now?
Yes. We are now running all training courses at all our training centres across the UK. You can book to attend an MRS Training & Rescue course online or by calling 01623 423777.
All courses will follow strict social distancing, hygiene and other safety precautions.
I have booked to attend a course, but am a vulnerable person or don’t feel comfortable attending – what should I do?
If you are a vulnerable person who is shielding, have had contact with someone who is symptomatic or has had a recent positive test for COVID-19, or someone in your household is symptomatic or has had a positive test for COVID-19 you should not attend the course you have booked.
Please contact the training centre you booked the course with and we will rebook the course for you at a later date.
Will I have to bring my own personal protective equipment (PPE) to the course?
Where the training course includes practical training outside the classroom candidates are required to bring their own clean PPE, including a safety helmet, overalls, hand protection and eye protection. If this applies to the course you are attending you will receive full details in an email ahead of the course.
We will supply PPE identified in our COVID-19 risk assessment (i.e. face masks, disposable gloves etc.) required for classroom training and attendance to other areas of training centres.
Will I be able to do the course if I don’t have my own PPE?
We do have limited supplies of disposable PPE available for anyone who is struggling to provide their own. If this applies to you, please let us know when booking the course so we can try to make suitable arrangements.
Will I have to wear a facemask and if so, do I need to provide my own?
At the start of the course, the instructor will provide you with a packaged medical facemask, which you may be expected to wear (depending on the course).
If you have already been issued one by your employer then please bring this with you. This is mandatory to wear in practical exercises where it is not possible to achieve social distancing requirements. It may also be worn at other times if the candidate prefers.
All our instructors have their own medical facemask (minimum standard 2R) which they will also wear where it is not possible to achieve social distancing requirements.
What about gloves? Will I need to provide them?
We do provide Nitrile (powder free) disposable gloves for certain parts of certain courses. Candidates are encouraged to change them regularly or as required (we hold large stocks). The disposable gloves are for specific parts of the training only and can be discarded into lined bins when required. This is supplemented by strategically placed hand sanitisation stations. Normal hand protection should also be brought by the candidate.
How many people will be on the course with me?
We have undertaken a careful and detailed review of each course, training room and wherever practicable training facilities and reduced candidate numbers to ensure there is always a 2m distance (minimum) between candidates and between candidates and the trainer/assessor.
As the size of facilities varies at training centres, please check with the training centre directly when booking to determine the number of delegates on the course with you.
What precautions have you taken when I arrive at your training centre?
To minimise the time spent in our reception area, we are asking candidates not to enter our training centre until 15 minutes before the course start time. On arrival, delegates will be met by a member of our team in the reception area, who will stand at a safe distance and verbally direct the candidates to their respective classrooms, where the trainer will be waiting to meet them.
All our reception areas now have hand sanitiser and tissues available and travel routes clearly marked out. Protective screens are installed on the reception desk where necessary.
What changes have you made to your classrooms to ensure I will be safe?
All classrooms have had a formal COVID-19 risk assessment and are now set up to ensure social distancing requirements are met. There is always a 2 metre minimum distance between candidates and candidates and the trainer/assessor. Classrooms also have suitable travel routes to ensure social distancing can be maintained in all areas.
Each delegate will have their own desk, paper and pen, and these, along with all other obvious touchpoints will have been thoroughly cleaner prior delegates entering. Touchpoints will also be cleaned again during lunchbreaks before delegates re-enter the room and at the end of each day. Hand sanitiser and tissues are also available in every classroom.
To allow for social distancing we have reduced the class numbers for our courses, based on the size of the classroom to ensure all social distancing requirements are met.
All classroom windows will be open and ventilation systems turned on where practically possible.
Do you still provide lunch and refreshments?
We know how popular our lunches are, but for now, candidates need to bring their own lunch and snacks. We will provide drinks machines and facilities candidates can use but we will be ensuring social distancing rules are met and all touchpoints will be cleaned after each use.
What happens if I need to use the restroom?
We are also staggering break times when running more than one course on site at any one time, ensuring we limit the numbers using break and restrooms at the same time to maintain social distancing.
We have also adopted additional cleaning of toilets, showers and changing facilities to make sure they are kept clean and paper towels are provided.
‘Keeping People Safe’ is the purpose of our business, and ensuring our business is coronavirus (COVID-19) secure has been a key focus of our teams. Having run some courses following these new measures we are proud to hear delegates feel safe in our hands.
“Excellent course. Related the information and scenarios to our specific needs. Facilities were great for the training purposes. As this course was taken during the COVID-19 epidemic, the company made sure the facilities were cleaned and safe to use at all times. I was never concerned with my safety – thanks MRS Training & Rescue.” - Scott Mackenzie – Blade Wind Services.
